South Korean film photographer Hansol Choi, also known as Rala Choi (Seoul, 1987), works with a photography that takes us back to the past through an analogue gaze, in a world that is increasingly digitalised and distanced from reality.
In this way, the artist captures the essence of a moment, stripping himself of any artifice or retouching, seeking the most authentic look at the photographic genre.
With an appearance that reminds us of painting, Choi makes use of a range of vivid colours that give life and subtle beauty to his works.

Choi is the youngest artist using Gum Printing in Korea.
For the photographer, in post-production lies the greatest contamination of the art of photography. A purist analogist, he creates his work strictly based on a motto: the crux of the creative process is in the camera itself, not outside. The colors, textures and what might appear to be software effects at first glance are, in fact, a very studied and careful use of film, which often confuses viewers, who sometimes believe they are looking at a painting and not an image. And that, in a world where most of the photographic process is usually spent in front of a screen, is where the magic of 35mm lies.
