‘The remains of the day’: A new group exhibition that finds meaning in the everyday

In a world obssese with speed, accomplishment, and contast trascedence, The remains of the day is a quiet call to stop, breathe, and notice. This group exhibition at our Barcelona Turó space brings together Miho Ichise (Saitama, Japan, 1969), Hiroki Kawanabe (Kagoshima, Japan, 1983) and James P. Morse (Hinsdale, US, 1982). Three artists who elevate the everyday, celebrating its overlooked beauty.

Their work does not seek grand gestures or monumental statements. Instead, it invites us into the fragile poetry of a hand resting idly, a bird mid-flight, or a sunlight warming a forgotten corner of a room. These moments are not just captures but exalted, treated as treasures rather than passing details. Through their paintings, these artists preserve the authenticity of the domestic and mundane, transforming it into a sanctuary of presence and reflection.

Inspired by thinkers like Henry Lefebvre, who published Critique de la vie quotidienne in 1967, an extensive analysis that describes daily life as both a site of alienation and possibility, the exhibition reclaims the ordinary as a space for stillness and renewal. These works are quiet rebellions against time’s relentless forward march, offering instead a meditative pause. The remind us that in the fleeting, there is permanence; in the everyday, there is depth.
