    A character who in appearance coincides with the artist…


    Undoubtedly, the body is the same; the gestures, for the most part, too. And I say «for the most part», because the woman next door has particular gestures that belong only to her. Like the swift way she pulls her hair. Or the singular ability to spread her arms, to wave her colours. Or the insistent way in which she hides her face from us. The woman next door likes to wander through uninhabited, empty spaces. As if she needed to strip herself of all accessories. To become light. She has her own entity and personality, and I have only tried to photograph her.

    Xènia Fuentes (Barcelona, 1981)

    For years I investigate the idea of duality. What happens when the same person is in front of and behind the camera? The one that is exposed and observed at the same time, the photographer and the model. I establish a dialog, a connection, between these two figures. As if with each image that I shoot, one tries to find the clue of the other. One tries to communicate with the other.

    Starting from an intimate photography, and using the self-portrait and the nude as genres, I explore my closest environment: home. Capturing the subtle changes that happen in the atmosphere; throughout the day, depending on the time of the year. I use my body and my feminity to play with light, shadows, colors…And thus create a particular universe, from which to offer a mistery, an emotion.
